1939 – 2016

AUBURN —

, 77, a resident of Monmouth, died Saturday, Dec. 24, at the home of her daughter, Ann Martel, in Auburn, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 2, 1939, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Cecil Jackman and Edna Bamford Jackman. Lois’s mom passed away on Christmas Eve, 1940, so Lois was raised by her aunt, Ruth Bamford Jackman, and her uncle, Lloyd. Lois was educated in Livermore Falls schools and was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School. On July 6, 1957, in Wayne, she married James Luther Gray Sr. of Monmouth. Lois retired from Gray Manor in Gray as a certified nursing assistant.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, animals, sewing, needlepoint, bird-watching, cooking and really enjoyed all the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, James Gray Jr. of Gardiner, Scot and Carol Gray of Harrison, Julie and Chris Lee of Monmouth, Sheila and Don Penney of Kittery and Ann and Rick Martel of Auburn; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; cousins that were more like brothers , George and Ada Jackman and Berchard and Sue Jackman; and her sister-in-law, Janice Jackman.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James L. Gray Sr. in 2013; her brother, Harold Jackman; a grandson, Justin Scott Robinson; her aunt, Ruth Jackman; and two uncles, Lloyd Jackman and Robert Bamford.
