Here in Maine, AMC works hard all year round to support a variety of conservation and environmental policy issues both in Augusta and at the federal level in D.C. We advocate on behalf of all of our members with recreation access as our primary lens. If you love to hike, paddle, ski, camp or just love our Maine mountains, then what happens in the State House and Congress affects you!

Learn how development, pollution or land conservation can change your trails experience for the better or worse. Join AMC Policy Staff, Kaitlyn Bernard, and the Maine Chapter Conservation Chair, Pete Carney, for an update on Maine’s current environmental issues and a preview of the 2017-2018 legislative session. We’ll have a rundown of the election results and what they mean for our policy agenda. We’ll also have opportunities for Maine members to stay in the loop and try their hand at policy advocacy.

The potluck and presentation are free and open to the public. The presentation starts at 7 p.m. For questions or information, contact Michelle Moody at [email protected].

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you know of anyone interested in “The Buccaneer,” a 1945 newspaper? Also “The Reservist,” a naval veterans newspaper from 1946? Thank you kindly. — No name, no town.

ANSWER: There are several museums throughout the state that may be interested in these newspapers.

The Maine Maritime Museum, located at 243 Washington St. in Bath, accepts donations of historic objects. You can contact the senior curator at 207-443-1316, ext. 328, or at [email protected].

The Maine State Museum, 83 State House Station in Augusta, may also be interested. Their chief curator is Laureen A. LaBar, and she can be reached by calling 207-287–6606 or by email at [email protected].
