Several weeks ago, I read that Gov. Paul LePage did not think the voters of Maine knew what they where voting for when they voted to legalize marijuana. Then, on tonight’s local news (Dec. 26) they reported that LePage still disputes the results of the vote, saying noncitizens voted.
LePage should give the citizens of Maine a break. I believe that the people knew what they we voting for. The vote is legal. The people of Maine have spoken. The governor needs to stop being a sore loser. Yes, there is work to be done. Yes, law enforcement will have challenges, but several other states for passed it and have managed to meet the challenges.
This will give the state of Maine badly needed jobs and tax dollars. The governor wanted to lower taxes, and this is a windfall for Maine. Another winner will be the jails and prisons with less people arrested for possession and the sale of marijuana.
Yes I do have some concerns on the eatables. But all in all, the other states have met the challenges, they have increased revenue and created jobs. Like the old song says, “The Times They Are a-Changin.” Gays can marry, transgender people can use public bathrooms, and now marijuana is legal.
