PARIS — Oxford County commissioners have voted unanimously to adopt a 2017 budget that raises property taxes by less than 1 percent.

County Administrator Scott Cole said the total county tax was set at $5.73 million, a 0.64 percent ($36,453) increase over the 2016 budget.

Total county expenditures for 2017 were set at $7.24 million, a 7.4 percent increase over the previous year. However, expected revenues for 2017 are 16.16 percent higher than the previous year, Cole said.

“There was a spike in expenses, but there was also a substantial spike in revenues, so they cancel each other out,” he said. “I’d say we have a fairly static operation going on here.”

Cole said about 70 percent of the county expenditure is related to personnel, and that the county will “be able to maintain our programs at their current staffing levels.”
