AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is promising to play nice as legislators head to Augusta for a new session.
LePage told WVOM-FM this week that he won’t be picking fights with legislators this year.
The governor said that he’s not going to call legislators names and that he’s not going to pick on any individual.
Last year, LePage left an expletive-filled message for a Democratic legislator and asked him to make the voicemail public.
Topics on the legislators’ agenda include tackling the drug crisis and ballot questions approved by voters.
The state will spend months handling the issues raised by the legalization of retail marijuana.
LePage’s budget proposal to legislators is due Friday, and he wants to lower taxes on the rich to make up for a new surtax.
