PARIS — A Lovell man was sentenced Friday to five years in jail, with all but six months suspended, for assaulting and threatening a person near his home in 2015.
Dennis Buffington Jr., 32, previously pleaded guilty to a felony charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor charge of reckless conduct.
Police were called to 52 Nuthatch Road around 1 a.m. on May 20, 2015, for a disturbance. They said Buffington threatened and assaulted a person, destroyed their house windows and a truck, risked harming three other people and fired a weapon within 100 yards of a home.
Oxford County Sheriff Cpl. George Cayer shot Buffington, Sheriff Wayne Gallant said at the time.
At Friday’s sentencing in Oxford County Superior Court, Judge Lance Walker accepted the District Attorney Office’s recommendation to five years in jail with all but six months suspended and two years of probation. Buffington was also ordered to pay $800 in restitution to the victims.
Buffington’s probation conditions include no use of drugs or alcohol and being searched and tested randomly for them. He also has to submit to counseling to the satisfaction of his probation officer.
