LEWISTON — Students celebrated their graduation from the Office Certificate with Customer Service Specialty class at the B Street Community Center in December 2016.

The Lewiston Adult Education program was offered in partnership with the Western Maine Community Action at the Lewiston CareerCenter. Family members also joined the celebration at the community center on 57 Birch St.

The goal of the program was to help students find entry-level office positions.

Students learned data entry, Microsoft Office and communication skills with a customer service focus. The students who received the certificate were Amy Michaud, Carla Maddocks, Deb Heroux, Roxana Torres, Abdou Moussa, Dannielle Ingram and Martina Hardy.

Both students and their teacher emphasized the importance of persistence as they reflected on the past semester.

“It wasn’t always easy, but through the support of classmates, family, friends and those key community partners, we persevered and became the change we envisioned,” instructor Greg Yates said. “From this class, seven courageous graduates have launched into a new future.”

“This class has helped me regain confidence and assured me that I can obtain employment that will be satisfying and rewarding if I persevere,” Maddocks said. “The skills that I have gained and the encouragement from you and my classmates have been key in boosting my self-awareness as well as my level of confidence.”
