1923 – 2017

LEWISTON — Reuben C. Gamache, 93, of Sabattus passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 4, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, following a short illness, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lisbon on Sept. 8, 1923, the son of the late Alfred and Maria (Belanger) Gamache. He was educated in the Lisbon School System and graduated as valedictorian from Lisbon High School. He studied communications prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He enjoyed working as a foreman in the apple industry for more than 40 years. Reuben enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, gardening and golfing. He was an avid animal advocate and loved his pets dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene (Michaud) Gamache, whom he married on Oct. 5, 1946; three sons, Jerry and his wife, Jeannie, Ron and his wife, Rose, and Skip; one daughter, Karen, and her husband, Ray; one sister, Aldea; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant son, Ronald Gamache; three brothers, Clifford, Clarence and Romeo; and by one sister, Clara.
