HELLO SUN SPOTS: Last year on April 2, the Sun Journal put on an inside yard sale at the Colisee in Lewiston where you could rent a space to sell miscellaneous items. I signed up for a space along with several other friends. We were all wondering if the Sun Journal will be having this sale again this year. Thank you for any information you can find out for us. — Kathleen Cyr & friends, no town.
ANSWER: The Community Indoor Sale was a community event sponsored by Sun Media Group and The Androscoggin Bank Colisee last year, but Sun Media Group will not be sponsoring a Community Indoor Sale again this year.
If any groups are holding craft fairs or vendor sales and need vendors or donations, please write in to Sun Spots. We are happy to share these needs with readers so people like Kathleen and her friends are aware of other opportunities in the community for contributing and selling their items.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Edward Little High School Class of 1967 will be celebrating our 50th class reunion on Sept. 30, 2017. Classmates who have not attended a reunion in the past or those whose address has changed in the past five years, please send your contact information to [email protected] or contact Sharon Bryant at 207-783-9503 to receive mailings. — S.B., Auburn.
Because of their similarity, Sun Spots will address the next two questions together:
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am wondering why some channels require max volume to be heard and others far less. Time Warner Cable and Channel 6 seem to be getting worse. Is anyone else having the same problem? — M.N., Jay.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Time Warner Cable Channel 6, the volume is so low on high that it is still hard to hear. Other people are having the same problem. I called the cable company and they said there is a problem and that they would fix it in 24 hours but it is still no better. Do you know who else to contact? — H. Babb, Livermore.
ANSWER: Fluctuations in audio levels are a normal complaint, but this seems pretty extreme, beyond an annoying difference in volume, because it is actually very hard to hear even when turned all the way up.
Time Warner Cable said that there is a problem so it would be best to call them to see if the problem has been fixed. If they know what is causing the volume trouble then they might have more details or specific suggestions to help you.
You can also contact the station directly to let them know about the issue. Channel 6 can be reached by emailing [email protected] or call 800-464-1213.
Another thing to do would be to check all of the cables plugged into your TV or sound system. A loose connection could explain audio trouble.
If your TV’s sound continues to cause problems, products actually exist with built-in functions to combat volume fluctuations. Most new televisions and smart TVs have a built-in volume-leveling feature. It can usually be found in the audio set-up menu and, depending on your TV, will be called something like auto volume level or true volume. If your TV does not have an option like this or a new TV is not in your budget but new speakers are, this feature is also available on most sound bars, which bypass the TV’s built-in speakers and tend to sound a lot better.
