WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Lewiston High School graduate has received the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers.

Corey Potvin, Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies research scientist, a 2000 graduate of LHS, was the only recipient from the University of Oklahoma.

He was nominated by the U.S. Department of Commerce for his significant and innovative contributions to observational analysis of thunderstorms, assimilation of observed storms into numerical prediction models and ground-breaking research to predict localized thunderstorm-related threats, such as tornadoes.

He is the son of Gisele Potvin of Lewiston and the late Keith Williams.

President Barack Obama on Jan. 9 named 102 scientists and researchers to receive the awards.
