WINTHROP — Winthrop raced out to a 12-point advantage in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 78-51 victory in boys’ MVC basketball action.

Senior guard Jacob Hickey led all scorers with 29 points, including six from behind the arc. Cam Wood chipped in with 13 points while Garrett Tsouprake added nine points and hauled in 10 rebounds in the win for the Ramblers (10-0).

Dustin Crawford led the Cobras (2-7) with 22 points followed by Evan Holzworth’s 14 in the loss.

Waynflete 60, St. Dom’s 32

AUBURN — Waynflete jumped out to a commanding 20-point lead at halftime en route to a 60-32 victory over St. Dom’s in boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Flyers (8-1) were led by Abdul Mohammed’s 14 points, followed by Yas Deng’s 13 and Jack Meahl’s 10 points in the victory. The Saints (0-9) were paced by Sam Rines’ 18 points, including four three point goals. AJ Parisi added six points in the loss.

Girls’ basketball

Waynflete 40, St. Dom’s 37

AUBURN — Waynflete held on to beat St. Dom’s, 40-37, in Class C South girls’ basketball action Friday night.

Annika Brooks scored 17 points to lead Waynflete, which improves to 5-5.

The Saints (2-7) were led by Caroline Gastonguay’s 10 points. Freshman Skye Rogers added nine points, and Rileigh Stebbins finished with eight.

Hebron 7, Kents Hill 0

READFIELD — Taylor Leech netted a hat trick and Ainsley King did not allow a goal as Hebron downed Kents Hill 7-0 in girls’ high school hockey.

Eliza Beaudin started the scoring for the Lumberjacks (6-5) with the first of her two goals at the 13:50 mark of the first period, assisted by Lauren Rousseau. Sofia Castriotta scored less than a minute later, assisted by Beaudin and Rousseau for a 2-0 lead after one period.

Leech scored her first goal two minutes into the second period by stealing the puck from a Kents Hill defender taking it past the goalie for an unassisted score. Beaudin scored again followed by Rousseau for a 5-0 advantage after two periods.

Leech completed her hat trick with a pair of third period goals ten seconds apart to cap the scoring. King, a freshman starting her first game in net, stopped all 11 shots she faced.

The Lumberjacks host Proctor on Saturday in the team’s annual “Pink in the Rink” game, a fund raiser for the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition.

Boys’ hockey

Hebron 5, Academie St. Louis 3

HEBRON — Hebron’s boys’ hockey team extended its winning streak to four games as they downed Academie St. Louis 5-3 victory Friday in Robinson Arena. 

Philippe Gilmour opened the scoring for the Lumberjacks (7-9) with a goal on assists from Declan Dennehy and Victor Frykfeldt. Academie St. Louis tied the score with a power play goal from Maxime Dumas for a 1-1 tie after one period.

Hebron answered with three second period goals, highlighted by Gilmour’s second goal of the game when Sean Kimura dropped a pass back to Waltteri Rannisto before getting it to Gilmour as he fired it past the ASL goalie. Corbin Cashman and Madhurane Muthukumaraswany added goals for the commanding 4-1 lead through two periods.

Rannisto would score the lone Hebron third period goal to seal the victory for the Lumberjacks. Nick Howard stopped 17 shots in net in the victory.
