Suffrage talk at Hebron Society
HEBRON — Anne Gass of Gray will speak on her book “Voting Down the Rose,” which details her great grandmother’s efforts, including picketing the White House, to win voting rights in the Suffrage campaign from 1914 to 1920.
The presentation will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Hebron Town Office, 351 Paris Road.
The public is invited.
Free smoke alarms in Jay
JAY — The Fire Department, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, is offering free smoke alarms to all homes in Jay.
Those interested in having smoke alarms installed in their home can call the Town Office to make an appointment. Installations will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.
The town is seeking volunteers to assist with installations.

Pet licensing grace period expiring
LEWISTON — The Lewiston City Clerk’s Department is reminding local dog owners that the one month grace period for licensing their pets will expire Jan. 31.
Per state law, a dog’s license expires Dec. 31 of each year, and a $25 late fine will be added to each license for all dogs licensed later than Tuesday, Jan. 31.
According to the City Clerk’s Office, only about 70 percent of the dogs that were licensed in 2016 have been re-licensed for the new year.
Dog license fees are $6 for a spayed or neutered animal or $11 for dogs that are not spayed or neutered.

MSSM Foundation selects officers
LIMESTONE The Maine School of Science and Mathematics Foundation recently selected a new slate of officers.
They are: Douglas Baston of Alna is the new chair; Jeremy Shute of Yarmouth, vice chair; David King of Limestone returning as treasurer; and, Luke Shorty, Executive Director of MSSM, returning as clerk.
