DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have several bags of both casual and business clothing in very good condition that I would like to donate to be used to help someone getting back into the workforce. There used to be a place somewhere in the Lewiston-Auburn area that did just that. I don’t want to donate to organizations that will sell the items, I already give plenty to all of them. Thank you. — No name, Auburn.
ANSWER: Sun Spots could not track down a specific organization in the Lewiston-Auburn area but drop-in centers and women’s shelters are almost always in need of clothing donations. You can call the Center for Wisdom’s Women, 97 Blake Street in Lewiston, at 207-513-3922 or contact Safe Voices, 484 Main St. in Lewiston at 207-782-1785, and see if they need women’s clothing when you are ready to donate.
If any readers know of an organization that could use business attire to help people getting back into the workforce, please write to Sun Spots.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Are there any local woodworkers that re-glue chairs? Thank you. — Janet, no town.
ANSWER: As a matter of fact, Sun Spots has a few businesses in her Rolodex who offer this service. Among them are: Bix Furniture Stripping and Refinishing located at 357 Main St. in Auburn, 207-783-3459; Morin’s Fine Furniture and Refinishing, 25 Beech St. in Lewiston, 207- 782-7511; and The Chair Doctor, 148 Poplar Hill Road in Turner, 207-225-2293. There may be individuals who also offer this service, possibly as a smaller, word-of-mouth business or hobby. If so, Sun Spots hopes they will reach out and let us know who they are and how to contact them.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am retired and simply an appreciative listener of WLAM 1470 AM and 870 AM radio. He plays what is considered old music. Some old and some just old enough to properly entertain many senior citizens and any others that appreciate older music. I listen to the station a lot. As much as I enjoy the station most of the time, I particularly enjoy it on Fridays, which is when he plays the music a lot of us seniors grew up listening. To listen without commercials is just wonderful.
Bob Bitner, station owner, is currently soliciting listeners for what is needed to pay for the daily operational costs of the stations. Doing this is only a hobby for him and not about profiting. The listeners’ trade off for funding the stations will result in commercial-free listening. Once he has what he needs, he will cease soliciting listeners on the radio for donations.
If you haven’t listened, please give it a try. They are the only commercial free radio stations around. Listening will allow you to know how to contribute if you come to that conclusion. — No name, no town.
