JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas — U.S. Air Force Airman George K. Kariotis graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Kariotis is the son of Deana L. Kariotis of New Gloucester.

He is a 2015 graduate of Gray New Gloucester High School, Gray.

FORT JACKSON, S.C. — U.S. Army National Guard Pvt. Nicole R. Blake has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, as well as military courtesy, drill and ceremony and the military justice system.

The soldier also completed rigorous physical-fitness training and foot marches and underwent instruction and practice in rifle marksmanship, bayonet use, unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, basic first aid and chemical warfare.

Blake is the daughter of Kenneth W. Blake and stepdaughter of Mary D. Washburn of Strong. She is a 2015 graduate of Richmond High School, Richmond.
