WALDOBORO — Early Sunday morning, a man was killed and one officer was injured after an armed confrontation with Waldoboro police.
Around 1 a.m., police responded to 81 Rivers Bend Rd. for a reported domestic violence disturbance.
When officers arrived at the residence there was an armed confrontation between police and 57-year-old Jon Alspaugh, resulting in shots being fired.
As a result of the exchange, Officer John Lash was shot and Jon Alspaugh was mortally wounded at the scene. Officer Lash was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital and later released.
Officer Lash was wearing his ballistic vest at the time of the shooting and his vest absorbed the brunt of the impact.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
The Attorney General’s Office and Maine State Police are handling the investigation. All questions regarding the shooting can be directed to the Attorney General’s Office or the Department of Public Safety in Augusta.
