1925 – 2017
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Thelma L. “Teddy” Hedges, 91, of Columbia, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Lenoir Woods.
She was born on March 4, 1925, in Norway, the daughter of Philip Woodman and Ethel (Walker) Prince, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on Nov. 5, 1955, to the Rev. Thomas H. Hedges. They served parishes in Barnet Center, Vt., Thompsonville, Conn., Schoharie, Hamburg and Syracuse, N.Y. She was a longtime resident of Westvale, N.Y., living on Breakspear Road before moving to Missouri.
Teddy earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Gorham State Teachers College in 1948, a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Hartford Seminary in 1952 and a Master of Science in Education from Syracuse University in 1980. She taught first grade for many years in the New York state public schools before teaching high school equivalency and college English courses at the Educational Opportunity Center in Syracuse, N.Y. At her retirement in 1990, she was chair of the English department.
Teddy enjoyed traveling with her husband, Tom, in the United States and abroad. She especially loved the opera, knitting, her many book clubs and women’s organizations.
She is survived by two sons, Chris Hedges and wife, Eunice Wong, of Princeton, N.J., Jeff Hedges and wife, Sondra, of Medford, N.J.; one daughter, Mimi Hedges and husband, Chuck Fagre, of Columbia, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Thomas, Noelle, William, Isabel, Chase, Konrad and Marina.
