EMS billing
What happened: Selectmen discussed the possibility of emergency medical services billing and voted to reach out to their state legislators regarding the issue.
What it means: Board Vice Chairman Scott Buffington brought up the idea when he was first elected as a way to offset the increasing cost of operating the Fire Department. He suggested paring back his initial ideas of charging for every service provided by the Fire Department and start with billing for services for car accidents.
What’s next: Buffington will contact state Rep. Lloyd “Skip” Herrick, R-Paris, and state Sen. Jim Hamper, R-Oxford, to discuss the idea further.
TIF summary
What happened: Selectmen received a one-page summary on the town’s Tax-Increment Finance district completed by Matt Eddy, economic development director for Kennebunk.
What it means: Selectmen hired Eddy this year to examine the TIF. Eddy had a family emergency and was unable to give his presentation Monday night. Town Manager Vic Hodgkins said the summary essentially says the town never followed through with the criteria required in the TIF, creating a “no harm, no foul” situation.
What’s next: Once the members of the newly formed Economic Development Committee meet, selectmen will invite Eddy to hold a joint workshop with the committee.
Assessor hours
What happened: Hodgkins announced Assessor Jerry Samson will work from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
Members sought
What happened: In his report, Hodgkins said members are needed for two committees.
What it means: The Budget Committee needs one full member and two alternates. Selectmen accepted Lisa Palmer’s resignation from the committee because of her work commitments. The 1 Paris Hill Committee needs one more member.
What’s next: Those interested in serving can visit the Town Office at 33 Market Square. The Budget Committee will hold its organizational meeting Feb. 8.
