NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced its February calendar.

The Center, in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building at 199 Main St., offers a variety of free programs to people impacted by cancer throughout the month. This month, the Center announces two new activities, 10 Tips for Health, a nutritional program, and Make a Kumihimo Bracelet. 

Drop-in hours are  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or find resources. Those using the center can pick up brochures or use lending library. The Center is also a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or take time for oneself by participating in activities offered.

February offerings include:

Banding Together to Restore: 11 a.m. to noon Mondays, Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. The program, led by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored bands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities to safely gain their desired goals. Getting back energy and the ability to move easier and carry out your daily tasks and enjoying life are part of this program. Yoga Warriors: 3 to 3:45 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 6, 13, and 27, Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. This free gentle yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures and guided mediation and relaxation. Yoga for Wellness: 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class at the Center, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Check the website for more information.

Chair Yoga: 2 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Sherri will lead the class in chair yoga. No mats are necessary. Chairs are provided.

Walk and Talk with David: David will share his favorite walking routes in Norway and Paris for a time of walking and chatting. Walks may be scheduled by contacting 207-739-7027.

Guided Meditation Gathering: 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8. Guided meditation promotes relaxation, which will lower stress. Using imagination, along with five senses, participants may find themselves in a tranquil state that is rejuvenating. There are no known risks associated with this practice. Susan Kane will lead the meditation.

Reiki 1 — Self Care: 1 to 2 p.m.  Tuesday, Feb. 28. Participants will learn to practice Reiki for the self. Reiki 1 — Self Care offer relief from some of the stress and discomfort you those impacted by cancer may be experiencing. Reiki complements the medical treatments prescribed by a physician. Charlotte LaBelle of Teresia Reiki will be the instructor. Individual sessions may be scheduled with LaBell between 2 and 3:30 p.m. by contacting 207-890-7063.

10 Tips for Health: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13. Sarah Carter, community Nutrition Educator from Healthy Oxford Hills, will offer the interactive class. Participants will discuss ways to increase fruits and vegetables in diet, share recipes and taste test, too. A light lunch will follow.

Stampin’ Up: 2 to 3:30 p.m.  Tuesday, Feb. 7. Kathy will provide materials and instruction to make a variety of cards. 

Community Cancer Cut and Sew: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Feb. 8 and 22, and 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Participants cut out material for bonnets and other comfort items needed by the Center. Sewing kits are assembled for people to take home to sew or sew them while they are there. 

Fabric Crafting with Barbara: 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Barbara Daigle will teach a series of non-sewing and beginner sewing crafts for participants to complete. 

Make a Kumihimo Bracelet: Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Lively Accents, 310 Main St. Cathy will teach participants how to make this Japanese braided bracelet. 

Knitting and Crocheting: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.

Coloring for Adults: 1 to 2 p.m. Thursdays. Coloring books and a variety of markers will be available.

Cards and Games: 1 to 2 p.m. Fridays. Various games will be available at the Center to play or participants may bring one of their own to get a game started.

In case of inclement weather, activities sponsored by the Center are canceled when SAD 17 classes are canceled.
