1930 – 2017
RUMFORD — Homer T. Newell, 86, of Highland Terrace in Mexico, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 25. He passed away at the Rumford Community Home following a brief illness.
He was born in Dixfield on July 30, 1930, a son of Celand T. and Arlene (Boivin) Newell.
Homer was educated in Dixfield schools and was a graduate of Dixfield High School, Class of 1948.
He was employed for 40 years with the Oxford Paper Co. and was a member of their 25- and 40-year clubs. Homer was also a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church. He loved making macramé chairs and tending to his flower gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Ora Laura Newell of Mexico; a son, Rick Newell and his wife, Pat, of Marlborough, Mass.; three daughters, Pamela Rivers and husband, Maynard, of Island Pond, Vt., Gail Bedard of Mexico, and Janet Hentsch of Gallatin, Tenn.; a sister, Ruth Ann Holman of Dixfield; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Beverly (Haines) Newell; a sister, Elizabeth Lowe; a brother, Donald Newell; and a nephew, Lynn Newell.
