LISBON — Police arrested a teenager last week in an investigation of graffiti that had been appearing around town.

Police arrested 18-year-old Daniel Martin and charged him with seven counts of criminal mischief before he was bailed and released.

About 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, officers responded to Mill Street after someone saw a young man acting suspicious near recent graffiti.

The officers searched the area and found a man matching the reported description on the walking path between Lisbon Community School and the boat launch. The officers said they then watched the man vandalizing objects on the walking path. They quickly took him into custody.

Martin later posted on the Lisbon police Facebook page, apologizing for the vandalism and explaining his goal. “My message was to spread positivity through the community by challenging the stereotypical close minded perspective and bring life and color to the area. I had no intent to upset or offend anyone, so anyone who has a negative perspective. I’m sorry.”

“I was merely trying to bring light and art to the stale environment. It was a mistake and I’m going to remove everything and allow the town to return to the stale gray it once was. I apologize.”
