Earl Belanger, 68, driver of the car at left, died when the van at right struck his car when he pulled out of his driveway on Route 124 in Minot on Thursday evening, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

MINOT — A local man pulling out of his driveway on West Minot Road was killed Thursday evening when he drove into the path of a van, state police said.

Earl Belanger, 68, died at the scene when the van struck the driver’s side of his car, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said late Thursday.

Two people injured in the crash were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, McCausland said.

Belanger’s passenger, 59-year-old Claire Dobbs who lived with Belanger, and the driver of the van, 61-year-old Charles Lane Jr. of Minot, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

The crash took place at about 6 p.m. Traffic was detoured as Maine State Police troopers investigated.
