WEST PARIS — Robert A. Roderick, 86, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris, where he had been a resident.
He was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Oxford, the son of Matilda (Tilly) Roderick Frye and stepson of William (Bee) Frye. He enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 16 and fought in the Korean War.
Bob served as Oxford’s fire chief and worked at Robinson Manufacturing for many years before becoming a much-loved bartender with his wife, Mary Ann, at the Country Way Restaurant in Norway. He worked there many years before retiring. Bob and Mary Ann went on several enjoyable trips with Henry and Barbara Paradis while the restaurant was closed in February.
Bob married Mary Ann Pratt on Nov. 10, 1950. He was a member of the Rockodundee Riders Snowmobile Club, Carleton Notch Gun Club, Kora Shrine, and Oxford Lodge 18, AF and AM, where he was a 55-year member.
He enjoyed his Saturday-morning ritual of coffee with Heyward Luck and friends at Twin Town Trailer Sales. He loved working outdoors and always kept his cars and yard in pristine condition. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his son, Stephen and wife, Sandra; his son-in-law, Frank Staley; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Roderick and Patricia Frye; grandchildren, Zachary Haines, Sonya Roderick Locke and her husband, Bill, Sara Roderick and fiancé, John Lavertu, and nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Margaret Staley; his brother, Roger Roderick; and half-brother, William Frye.
