It’s about time someone from Lewiston City Hall speaks up. Mayor Bob Macdonald (Sun Journal, Jan. 31) said exactly what many Lewiston taxpayers have been trying to say right along.
I think the Lewiston officials should close the General Assistance office and give someone else a turn with the burden. I saw two panhandlers recently at different corners in Lewiston. That, along with homeless people in the city, is really unacceptable when I see what is happening at City Hall.
The mayor is right, but as long as there are only three city councilors on the taxpayers’ side, nothing will change.
Lewiston should take care of its own first. Call me what you want. Speaking for many citizens — we have had enough.
