PARIS — No action was taken Tuesday by Oxford County commissioners after an executive session on negotiations for property abutting the courthouse on Western Avenue, county Administrator Scott Cole said.
For several years, commissioners have been seeking to revamp and expand the courthouse. They were seeking to purchase land to “facilitate a better project,” Cole said.
“We’ve been in serious negotiations with several abutters and have had some very good conversations,” he said. “We hope to have something to present within the next several weeks.”
In December 2016, commissioners voted to purchase property on Promenade Street that abuts the courthouse for $150,000.
Cole said the parking lot at the courthouse will be the site of a new courthouse, and the Promenade Street property would be used for parking.
Built in 1895, the two-story brick courthouse is home to the Oxford County Superior Court, county administrative offices, Registry of Deeds Office for the Eastern Division and the assistant district attorney’s offices.

Oxford County commissioners are negotiating to buy land next to the courthouse in South Paris. The plan is to renovate and expand the courthouse and add land for parking.
