FARMINGTON — Helen Ann Hughes, 73, a resident of Farmington, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

She was born April 12, 1943, in Steep Falls, the daughter of Franklin Swinington and Hattie D. (Ward) Swinington. Helen was a graduate of Pennell High School in Gray. On Oct. 7, 1983, she married Gerald L. Hughes; he passed away Feb. 26, 2015.

She devoted her life to her family and her home. Helen dedicated her life to the Lord and was a current member of the First Apostolic Church in Wilton. Helen was also a former member of The Note-Ables Chorus in Bangor. She enjoyed knitting, coloring and had a love of poetry and a few of her poems she had written were published.

She is survived by her daughter, April Kerr and her husband, Jeffrey, of Farmington; three grandchildren, Franklin Steele and his wife, Melissa, of Bethel, Heather Steele of Vienna, Georgia, and Theodore Gagnon of Lewiston; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cora Swinington of Gray; and her beloved cat, Tiffany.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Harold Swinington.
