SPRING HILL, Fla. — Francis L. Avey Jr., 80, of Spring Hill, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Lillian (Ferris) and Francis L. Avey Sr. in Boston, Mass., in 1936, he attended schools in Lewiston and the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. He also served in the U.S. Army for two years.
He married Carolyn Campbell in 1966. His career was spent teaching in Maine and Virginia. He later retired to Florida where he enjoyed bird watching, gardening, biking with his wife, and playing cards with his friends and relatives.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn; a sister, Barbara Fournier and her husband, Gerald; a second sister, Patricia Pelletier and her husband, Larry; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly.
