WINSLOW — Helen O. Hovestadt, 87, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Goudreau’s Retirement Inn in Winslow.
She was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Boston Mass., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wincenty Golleski, both deceased. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989 from Greene, with 21 years of service. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Auburn, and worked in the church office for 10 years. She was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls in Boston, Mass. She wintered in Florida and traveled widely in the United States, Canada, England and Italy. Her interests were camping, sewing, reading and working in her many perennial flower gardens.
She was married to John Hovestadt in 1948 and survivors include her husband, John; daughters, Linda Clark with husband, Alan, of Grantsville, Utah, Diane Rawson with husband, Steven, of Winslow; granddaughters, Janelle Clark and Melissa Taylor; four great-granddaughters, Kiara Clark, Jaycee, Jaquee and Alexa Taylor; and one great-grandson, Quinn Clark; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Otto, Edmund and Charles Rhode; three sisters, Adeline Rhode, Josephine Golleski and Mary Handy; and granddaughter, Jessica Clark Tayon.
