Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club meeting

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

The speaker will be Maine State Bee Inspector Jennifer Lund speaking on viruses caused by varroa mites and other diseases.  

The public is welcome.

Farmington Contradance March 11

FARMINGTON — The Contradance is set for Saturday, March 11, at the Farmington Grange, 124 Bridge St. A regular Contra will be held from 8 to 10:30 p.m. 

Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students or $15 maximum per family. All dances are taught. Beginners are welcome, and partners are not necessary.

Oxford to vote tastiest pizza

OXFORD — Oxford Recreation will host the 10th annual Pizza Challenge where pizza lovers will vote for their favorites.

Voting and tasting will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Oxford Rec Center, 223 King St.

There will be a sampling of up to 36 different pizzas submitted by businesses from Oxford. Each business will have a cheese, a pepperoni and specialty pizza of their choice available to taste.

The cost to participate is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children younger than 12. Beverages will be available to purchase.

All proceeds will go programs offered by the Rec Department. 

Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP meeting

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet at noon on Monday, March 13, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street.

Lunch, which will be served at noon, will be a ham dinner and will cost$7. Reservations required by Friday, March 10.

The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m.

Members are continuing the book and puzzle swap and will collect food for the local food pantry.

The program will be presented by historian Ben Conant, who will show the history of the local AARP organization.

‘Computers for Seniors’ in Rumford

RUMFORD — Rumford Public Library will offer “Computers for Seniors” for five consecutive Mondays in March and April teaching the basics of computers, E-mail, smartphones, tablets, Internet safety and more.

It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays, March 27 to April 24, in the Rumford/Mexico University College’s computer lab. The class is limited to 10 participants, and registration is required.

Those attending maybe bring their tablets or smartphones.

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club winners on Feb. 24 were, first in flight A, Dot Kelleher and Mike True; second in A and first in B, B.J. and Steve Cavicchi; third in A and second in B, Milt McKeen Jr. and Jim Krainin; fourth in A, Paul Clement and Rosemarie Goodwin; third in B, Jim Dickens and Rick Verrill; fourth in B, Cathy Sanderson and Claire Lyons.

Games are played at 9:15 a.m. Fridays at the Oxford Recreation Building on King Street. All bridge players are welcome, and a partner is guaranteed.
