DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is Joe Bornstein a real person or is it just a company name? Thanks for your help, Sun Spots. — No name, Peru.

ANSWER: He is indeed a real person and a real attorney at this law office. According to their website,

“Joseph L. Bornstein founded and established the Law Offices of Joe Bornstein over 40 years ago on the Portland waterfront in the city’s historic Old Port district. Since then, Joe and the firm have represented more than 24,000 clients. … Joe is also an active member of the Maine State Bar Association, the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association for Justice.”

You may be aware that the man in the TV commercials is not Joe Bornstein but the actor Robert Vaughn, famous for the TV show, “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Feb. 13, 2018 the Town of Mexico will celebrate its bicentennial. The bicentennial committee is hard at work planning activities from that date on throughout the year of 2018. To begin, we are having a few fundraisers in 2017.

On March 25 there will be a spaghetti supper and silent auction at the Calvin P. Lyons Hall, downstairs at the Town Hall in Mexico. Serving will begin at 4 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, under 2 are free. We will have spaghetti and meatballs, rolls, salad and a special cake with the bicentennial logo on it. In addition, there will be a silent auction, a 50/50 drawing and information about other upcoming fundraising and bicentennial activities. Some of these upcoming activities include: creating quilt squares for quilts — one will be donated to the Mexico Town Office and others will be raffled; logo memorabilia; and car washes.

Car washes will be offered May 13 (wash your mom’s car for Mother’s Day) and June 17 (wash your dad’s car for Father’s Day) behind the Mexico Fire Station.

We will also be selling prize-a-day calendars for the month of May for $5 each for 31 chances to win prizes.

We need donations for both the silent auction and the prize-a-day calendars. If you are interested in donating or have any questions, please contact Sheryl Briggs at the Mexico Town Office, 207-364-5665 or Marilla Couch at 207-418-1729 or email [email protected]

We have a website, and a Facebook page so people can follow our activities both during this planning time and next year during the bicentennial year.

If you are interested in joining the Mexico Bicentennial Committee, our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month and the last Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Mexico Town Office. Thank you. — Marilla Couch, Bicentennial Committee secretary.
