Caladh Nua finds a haven at Collins Center for the Arts

A vibrant, talented band with deep roots in Ireland will perform on St. Patrick’s Day at the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine.

Caladh Nua — which in Gaelic means a new port or anchorage — will take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday, March 17.

The five versatile singers also play banjo, fiddle, guitar, bodhran, tin whistle and button accordion. And with a long list of TV and radio appearances and three highly acclaimed albums, the band is as accomplished off-stage as it is on.

For centuries, Ireland’s musicians have been inspired and nurtured by the sounds and swells of the windblown island. Caladh Nua embraces that heritage and incorporates its own innovative flair.

Danny Matheson of Celtic Music Radio called the band’s sound “Irish music at its best.”
