PARIS — Paris Public Library’s Novel Idea Book Club will next discuss “Stella by Starlight” by Sharon Draper.
The book club is based on Maine Humanities’ Not for Children Only Book Discussion.
The club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21.
“Stella by Starlight” takes place in the segregated South in Bumblebee North Carolina where the Ku Klux Klan has made an unwelcome reappearance. Some places Stella frequent; others she can’t. Some people are pleasant to her; others aren’t.
One night, Stella and her brother see something they aren’t supposed to see, which sheds light on future, unwelcome change.
“”As Stella’s community — her world — is upended, she decides to fight fire with fire. And she learns that ashes don’t necessarily signify an end,” according to Goodreads.
To secure a book, readers should contact the library. The library will obtain a copy on loan as soon as possible.
A refreshment related to the book will be available.
For those who are unable to attend, there is an option of being a “silent participant.” Silent participants reads the monthly selection and e-mails their thoughts about the book to the library prior to the discussion date. Responses from each silent participant”p will be shared during the discussion.
