Two dynamic senior captains from the Twin Cities are among eight semifinalists up for the Travis Roy Award, presented annually by the Class A Hockey Coaches Association to the top Class A senior boys’ hockey player in the state.

Lewiston’s Jeromey Rancourt and St. Dominic Academy’s Noah Toussaint join six other semifinalists: Bangor goalie Derek Fournier, Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth forward Cam Wilson, Biddeford forward Ricky Ruck, Scarborough defenseman Eric Murray, Massabesic/Bonny Eagle/Old Orchard Beach forward Tanner McClure and Falmouth forward Robbie Armitage.

Rancourt led the defending Class A state champion Blue Devils with 44 points (18 goals, 26 assists) — equaling the total of junior captain Joe Bisson — and has captained Lewiston to another state final this season. Rancourt is looking to become Lewiston’s third Travis Roy Award winner.

Toussaint helped lead a young Saints team to the Class A North semifinals, pacing St. Dom’s in goals (15) and points (23), and was tied for the team lead with eight assists. Toussaint would be the Saints’ fourth winner of the award.

Fournier is the lone goalie on the list after compiling a 1.74 goals against average and .922 save percentage for his career, including 10 shutouts. Fournier would be Bangor’s second award winner.

Wilson would be the first Ram to win the award, and he could be the first Cony player to be named a finalist since 1999 for the award that was created in 1996. The senior top-liner scored 14 goals and added 11 assists during the regular season.

Ruck is a four-year starter for the Tigers, and paced Biddeford this year with 16 goals and 16 assists during the regular season as an assistant captain. He would be the fourth Biddeford play to win the award.

Murray is looking to make it two straight award winners from Scarborough, after Matt Caron became the first Red Storm player to receive the honor last year. The lone defenseman on the semifinalists list, Murray was a co-captain for the Red Storm, and was a force at both ends of the ice, both in scoring output and as a shut-down defender.

McClure was the Class A leader in points, and notched his 100th career point during his senior season. He would be the first MOB player to win the award. No player from any of the three schools in the co-op have been named a finalist.

Armitage has a chance to be the third award winner from Falmouth, and second in three years. The senior captain is one of just two seniors on the Yachtsmen’s squad this year, along with twin brother Reece. Armitage, a four-year starter, led Falmouth in goals (16), assists (17) and point (33) during the regular season, and has the Yachtsmen back in the Class A state final.

The eight semifinalists will be whittled down to four finalists, with the winner announced at the Class A Hockey Coaches Association banquet on March 26.
