MVHS blood drive Wednesday

RUMFORD — The Mountain Valley High School student council will hold a blood drive from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, at the Mountain Valley High School gym.

Maine Women’s Hall of Fame celebration

AUGUSTA — The 28th annual Maine Women’s Hall of Fame celebration will be held Saturday, March 18, at Jewett Hall Auditorium, University of Maine at Augusta.

The Silver Tea and registration are from 1 to 2 p.m. The induction ceremony will be at 2 p.m. The celebration is open to the public.

Women to be honored are Dr. Ann Schonberger, University of Maine mathematics professor, and Clara Swan, former president of Casco Bay College and a Husson College business professor.

The hall of fame is dedicated to women whose achievements have met these criteria:

• A statewide impact;

• Have significantly improved the lives of Maine women; and

• Have enduring value for women.

Temple Historical Society open house

TEMPLE — The Temple Historical Society will hold an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. on the third Sunday of January, February and March in the Archives Room at the Temple Town Hall.

The last open house will be March 19.

The public is invited to research or just go through the archives accumulated over the years; members will be available to assist.

The monthly meeting of the Temple Historical Society will be held at 3 p.m., and guests may attend. 

Veterans Affairs Maine town hall meeting

RUMFORD — Veterans Affairs Maine will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 21, at 6 p.m. at the VFW Post 1641, 330 Waldo St.

The VA Medical Center director and regional office director will provide updates of the VA Maine Healthcare System and the Togus Regional Office operations.

VA staff will be on site to provide detailed information on VA healthcare and other VA benefits and services, and answer questions.

A member of the VA Experience staff will be on site to explain the new VA initiative to improve veterans’ VA care and benefits and to coordinate with the community in support of veterans’ care and other issues.

Trail work day on Pleasant Mountain

BRIDGTON — Loon Echo Land Trust will host a trail work day at the Pleasant Mountain’s Ledges Trail on Saturday, April 15.

This beginner to advanced trail work day will be co-led by the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Maine Chapter.
