On Saturday, March 4, I attended the West Paris annual town meeting and, other than one article, I thought the meeting was very productive. Many of the articles were handled very well by the townspeople.
But the Sun Journal chose to publish a story about only one article — the ordinance prohibiting retail marijuana stores, manufacturing, testing, etc. That article failed to pass because it was not controlled by a certain date.
It is a shame that there is so much time and money being spent on a get-rich-quick idea — something like a “gold rush,” just to destroy someone else’s mind.
West Paris had 43 articles on the warrant and, in the course of the town meeting, spent $1,100,000, elected a new selectman (Dale Piirainen) to a three-year term, congratulated Dennis Henderson for 13 years of great town service, saved the Tri-County Ambulance Service, continued athletic support, etc.
Sorry the Sun Journal doesn’t like positive news.
Ted Jones, West Paris
Editor’s note: The Sun Journal published a second story regarding the West Paris town meeting in the Tuesday, March 7, issue.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
