LEWISTON — Maxine Russell Rines, 86, of Hartford passed away peacefully Monday, March 13, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

She was born June 18, 1930, in Grinnell, Iowa, a daughter of the late William and Viola (Parmley) Russell.

Growing up, she attended schools in Grinnell, Iowa, and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1947. After high school, Maxine attended God’s Bible College in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated in 1954. She married Paul W. Rines on June 19, 1954, who became a minister in the Church of the Nazarene and they served together in several churches for 39 years. During this time, she served as children’s worker, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School director and pianist. Also, she enjoyed substitute teaching in various elementary schools. She had special interest in reaching out to disadvantaged children.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Baker and her husband, James, of Largo, Fla; her son, Douglas Rines and his wife, Faith, of Hartford; and two sisters, Wilma Lord and Ruth Jones, both of Grinnell, Iowa. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Erin Baker Canepa and her husband, Michael, of Brandon, Fla., Dr. Amanda Baker Newcity and husband, Zack, of Brandon, Fla., Stephen Paul Rines and his wife, CarolAnn, of Gulfport, Miss., Adrienne Rines Haglin and her husband, Andrew, of Salem, N.H., Kyle Rines and Kaitlyn Rines of Hartford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Paul W. Rines of Hartford; and her son, Stephen Rines of Derby, Vt.; a brother, Robert C. Russell of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Doris Russell of Grinnell, Iowa.
