DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like the recipe for tomato bisque that was published, probably around August or September. I lost my copy. — No name, no town.

ANSWER: There was a question from a reader looking for her mother’s tomato bisque recipe in Sun Spots on Jan. 26, 2016. She could only remember a few of the ingredients, so Sun Spots published this recipe from cooks.com:

Tomato Bisque Soup

2 (1 lb.) cans tomatoes

1/2 c. onions, chopped

1 tbsp. sugar

2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

1/2 tsp. cloves or allspice

1/4 c. butter

1/4 c. flour

1 qt. milk

In medium pan, simmer tomatoes, onions, salt, pepper, cloves, or allspice, and sugar for 10 minutes until paste. Melt butter in large pan and whisk in flour; add milk. Simmer until hot and thick. Add hot tomato mixture to hot milk mixture. Serve hot.

A lot of readers repsonded to the request for tomato bisque recipes with their own, which were then featured in Sun Spots.

Here is a recipe from C.R. in Lewiston from January 2016 in response to the reader looking for her mother’s tomato bisque recipe:

Heat 3 cups of milk and 3-4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan until just warm, not hot. (For a richer version, use 2 cups of half-and-half and 1 cup of milk.)

In a separate pan, heat 1 14-oz. can of tomatoes to boiling and boil for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda. Add to the milk/butter mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

This is another recipe, it comes from David in Poland from February 2016:

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In Lewiston we have a small competitive cheerleading gym, Element All Stars, that produces outstanding athletes. They compete in local, regional and national competitions.

Last May, two of the teams Neon — 11 years old and under — and Chrome — 10 to 18 years old — were invited to the Cheerleading Summit at the ESPN Wild World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. This competition was broadcasted live on one of the ESPN channels.

Only 10 percent of the most elite competitive cheerleading teams are invited to attend. There were 45 states and international teams represented. After three days of competition, on the last day with 10 teams left standing, Neon came in fifth place in their level! This is the best outcome, ever, for a Maine team.

Neon and Chrome have been invited again to the Cheerleading Summit and will be representing Maine.

They can use your support to help with the travel expenses. You can visit our website at elementallstarsme.com. Call 207-782-0004 or email [email protected] for more information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. — Ed, no town.
