TOPSHAM — Doris H. Noddin, 98, formerly of Marlboro died peacefully on Thursday, March 16, at The Highlands, Cadigan Lodge residence.
Doris was born in Biddeford, on Oct. 25, 1918, the daughter of Francis E. and Lillian (King) Lynch.
She graduated Thornton Academy, Saco, Class of 1936. She then earned her R.N. Degree at Sisters of Mercy School of Nursing in Waterville, where she graduated in 1939.
Doris married Lawrence M. Noddin in 1941 at St. Petersburg, Fla.. They moved back to Maine to start a family where she continued to work in her nursing field at Thayer Hospital in Waterville, then as school nurse in Waterville. Lawrence’s work with the telephone company took them to Bangor, Presque Isle and Portland. Doris held positions of school nurse in Waterville and Presque Isle and was the office nurse for Dr. Sarah Cope, a pediatrician in Portland, until Doris retired.
Doris and Lawrence retired in 1976 to their beloved converted summer place on Frenchman’s Bay in Marlboro, where they had cottages and land. She had many fond memories of raising her children and gathering with friends and family summers on Frenchman’s Bay. The frequent gatherings with friends and family continued throughout their retirement years. Doris had been a prolific stamp collector for years and she had the opportunity to bring her years of collecting experience to the Ellsworth Stamp Club where she was a member for many years.
In 2000, she and Lawrence moved to a new home at The Highlands in Topsham, and once again they organized neighborhood events such as cribbage and outings that served to keep everyone busy and having fun. Lawrence predeceased her in 2006 at the Highlands.
Doris and Lawrence were avid skiers well into their 70s. They had a place at Sugarloaf from 1961 which they frequented every winter with family and friends for many years, partaking of the skiing during the day, the happy hours in the late afternoon and “2 for one” dinners in the evening. In addition, they took several ski trips with both family and friends to Europe and the western United States.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, in 2006; her daughter, Gail Parker in 1998; her grandson, Matthew in 1999; her brothers, Paul Lynch and Donald Lynch.
She is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Stephanie; her granddaughter, Laura Noddin-Rosenberg and her husband, Michael Rosenberg, and their three children, Reese, Noah and Cameron; her stepsons, Aaron Cassidy and Mason Cassidy; a niece, Kathryn Lynch of California; her sister-in-law, Joan and her children, James Lynch and his wife, Jennifer, Brian Lynch, Kevin Lynch and Mary Beth LaBarre and her husband, Paul.
