FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will host its 6th annual 5K/10K Kids’ Fun Run, on Sunday, April 30, in downtown Farmington. The Run will benefit programming that aims to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts.
All ages are welcome to participate in the 5K/10K, but no pets, skateboards, roller-blades, or bicycles are allowed on the course. To keep runners and walkers well hydrated, the course will provide three water stations.
Registration and check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., the morning of the race, at the Franklin County Children’s Task Force office, on 113 Church St., in Farmington. The Kids’ Fun Run will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K/10K will begin at 9 a.m. Children will enjoy a race around the block with ribbons for all.
The preregistration cost for adults is $20 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K. Participants may also register on the day of the race for an additional $2. The first 50 running registrants will receive free shirts. The Kids’ Fun Run is free for children under 12. Race fees are tax-deductible.
Proceeds help to provide community education programming in Franklin County, including programs on peer maltreatment, commonly called “bullying.” Peer abuse is now recognized as a prevalent feature of school life, and in terms of impact, outcomes, and intervention requirements, it can be equated with other forms of child abuse.
Pre-registration is encouraged. Participants can register online at www.active.com by credit card, or by cash or check on the day of the race. Checks can be made out to FCCTF.
