Androscoggin County sheriff’s deputies and Maine State Police troopers confer on Route 122 in Poland on Wednesday at the scene of a head-on accident involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer. Lt. Glenn Holt said pickup truck driver David Seeley, 55, of Gray was critically injured, while rig driver Steve Naud, 43, of Quebec, sustained minor injuries.

Police said David Seeley, 55, of Gray was critically injured when his pickup truck and a tractor-trailer from Canada collided head-on on Route 122 in Poland on Wednesday morning. Steve Naud, 43, of Quebec, the driver of the rig hauling paper, had minor injuries.

POLAND — A truck and a tractor-trailer collided on Route 122 around noon Wednesday, critically injuring one driver and closing the road between Bald Hill Road and Empire Road.

David Seeley, 55, of Gray, had to be extricated from his vehicle by Poland Fire and Rescue, and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Seeley was driving east in a gold 2003 Ford Ranger on Route 122, also called Spring Water Road, according to a news release from Lt. Glenn J. Holt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

A 2016 Kenworth, operated by Steve Naud, 43, of Quebec, Canada, was traveling west on Route 122 when the two vehicles collided head-on at 11:32 a.m near the Verrill Road intersection, Holt said.

Holt said that Naud sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The truck was owned by Transport Couture and Fils Ltee out of Quebec and was loaded with paper.

The fuel tank on the truck ruptured at the time of the collision, causing it to leak. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was called to the scene to stop the leak and clean up the road.

Poland Fire and Rescue assisted with the leak, Holt said.

Route 122 was closed between Bald Hill and Empire roads until 4:45 p.m. while the accident was reconstructed and cleaned up. Traffic was detoured by the Maine Department of Transportation.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit assisted at the scene, and the crash is being reconstructed by Maine State Police.
