TOPSHAM — The Orion Performing Arts Center will host Create-A-Play Theater/Art Day Camp for middle-schoolers, giving them the opportunity to develop characters, write plays, create scenery and perform in a play.
Half of each day will consist of theater activities, including character development, scene-writing, acting skills, projecting the voice and theater games. The other half of the day will be creating visual arts such as set design/building, props, costumes, self-portraits, painting and other art activities.
The theater director will be Kathleen Nation, who has experience in the performing arts fields and has worked frequently with middle-school students. The art director will be announced.
Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, July 17 to 21, at Mt. Ararat Middle School, 66 Republic Ave. The play will be performed on Friday, July 21, at 3 p.m., followed by a cast and family party.
Camp is open to all students finishing grades five through eight in June. Space is limited to 20 participants.
