JAY — Voting on a proposed $6 million municipal budget for 2017-18 will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the Community Building.
The town has to keep its voting date, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere told selectpersons on March 27.
Jay had aligned is annual town meeting referendum to match the date of the Regional School Unit 73 budget validation vote, which was set for April 25. The school budget will not be ready for a vote on that date.
LaFreniere said she checked with the Maine Municipal Association and because absentee ballots were already available and selectpersons and school board candidates are up for election on April 25, the vote has to be held on the 25th.
School officials would not change their budget vote to June, LaFreniere said.
The other two towns in the school district, Livermore and Livermore Falls, will vote on their town budgets in June.
