OTISFIELD — Otisfield Conservation Committee Chairwoman Maureen Mooney-Howard told selectmen Wednesday that the committee would postpone its Greeley Brook Cleanup Day until the first Saturday in June.

It was originally scheduled for April 22.

Mooney-Howard said she drove along the roads that border the brook and saw there was a lot of ice and snow on the brook and the “snowbanks along the roads are still huge.”

The brook, which starts in Norway and runs through Otisfield and Oxford before emptying into Thompson Lake, runs parallel to Gore Road. Several roads cross it, including Yeaton Swamp Road.

“I don’t think I’ve seen those roads that bad,” she said. “We can’t even get in there yet to see what we’re cleaning up.”

She said the committee was planning to team up with the Thompson Lake Environmental Association for the work.

“Right now, we’re pretty sure we’re doing the cleanup on the very first Saturday of June, which is June 3rd,” Mooney-Howard said. “The rain date will be June 10.”

Selectman Lenny Adler asked how the committee hauls away the garbage.

Mooney-Howard said it typically “finds out ahead of time who has trucks or trailers so we can use the to put the trash.”

“Once the snow melts and we can get in there and see what’s there, we can make a plan of how many trucks we’ll need,” she said.
