Respectfully but impressively the Auburn and Lewiston Housewives organization speak. They have gone on record, at Thursday’s session, for two important improvements: a better class of drama and moving pictures in these cities, and simpler graduations in all the schools. They have expressed their opinion with proper deference to interested authorities having delegated committees to investigate and report, await further action later.

Victory was sweet Tuesday for veterans in the Oxford Hills region who learned state officials voted to construct a 90-bed nursing home for military personnel and their spouses on High Street in Paris. The Maine Veterans Home trustees decided the Oxford Hills proposal was the “best” plan submitted, said veterans home Administrator Williams Carney, because accessibility of the property to utilities would reduce the cost of developing the land. The vote by veterans home trustees Tuesday ended weeks of uncertainty and debate over where a western Maine veterans home should be built. Officials from the eight-town Oxford Hills region, Rumford and the Lewiston-Auburn area all had been lobbying hard for the project.
