LIVERMORE — Selectpersons voted 4-0 Wednesday night to renew the liquor license and special events permit for the Carriage House Cafe.
A public hearing was held prior to the vote, but with no one attending, selectpersons used that time to review the applications submitted by owner Michael Weaver.
Selectperson Wayne Timberlake referred to the board’s previous decision not to renew the liquor license. He was not a member of the board when that decision was made.
Board Chairman Mark Chretien said that two years ago the board voted not to renew the liquor license because some background information was missing.
“We felt it was incomplete,” Chretien said.
Weaver was also denied a renewal by the Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages & Lottery Operations. He appealed the decisions.
According to Sun Journal archives, District Court Judge Susan Orman ruled the board was justified in denying the request because the law allows town officials to deny a license for felony convictions.
Weaver later submitted a liquor license renewal application that included his background information and selectpersons approved it Feb. 22, 2016.
On Wednesday night Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said she had obtained updated records and found nothing new.
