PORTLAND — In a battle between the Double-A affiliates of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, the Red Sox’ prospects made a comeback Sunday afternoon.

Mike Olt hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Portland Sea Dogs to a 6-5 victory over the Trenton Thunder at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs scored four runs in the final frame after trailing 5-0 midway through the finale of the three-game series. Portland got on the board with two runs in the sixth.

A two-run home run by Joseph Monge with one out in the ninth drew the Sea Dogs to within one. Aneury Tavarez doubled and Heiker Meneses singled and stole second to set up Olt for the game-winning heroics off Trenton reliever Cale Coshow.

The Thunder battered Sea Dogs starting pitcher Trey Ball in the first five innings. Abiatal Avelino doubled in two runs in the second, and Dante Bichette Jr. hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Mike Ford smacked an RBI double to knock out Ball with one out in the fifth.

The Portland bullpen provided 4.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits the rest of the way to the Thunder.

Olt and Tzu-Wei Lin both hit solo home runs in the sixth to knock out Trenton starter Justus Sheffield.

Jamie Callahan pitched a perfect top of the ninth for Portland to earn the win in relief. Travis Hissong took the mound for the Thunder in the bottom of the inning, after striking out the side in the eighth, but was charged with three of the Sea Dogs’ ninth-inning runs before giving way to Coshow.
