RUMFORD — New England Celtic Arts will present East Coast Canadian super group Cy at the Celtic Cabaret, 49 Franklin in Rumford, Thursday, May 4. Curtain is at 7 p.m.
From the Acadian regions of eastern Canada, Cy is returning from the International Cajun Festival in Lafayette, Louisiana, via Nashville and N.Y. This will be the group’s first Maine performance.
The band has a great mix of very high-energy English songs and haunting Acadian numbers. They are one of Canada’s top rated Acadian bands. Expect tight vocal harmonies blended with award-winning rhythms and energy.
Since September 2013, Cy has been mixing vocal harmonies, guitar strings, mandolin and keys to create sounds both modern and reminiscent of days past. This Acadian indy-folk band members have taken to the road in Canada and Europe, promoting their music with the wind in their backs and the sea in their suitcases. Cy is Jacques Blinn, Guyaume Boulianne and Eric Dow are from Nova Scotia, and Jacques Boudreau from New Brunswick.
Cy’s award-winning CD, “Deuxième Nation,” was released in 2016. “With our music, we combine the past and the present. The band is known for poking around in archives, finding old songs or melodies and modernizing them. They also look for stories in their neighborhood in Nova Scotia, and tell them in a song.
