The new law requiring the registration of explosives is causing much comment in these cities, more especially in Lewiston. The strict letter of the law demands the registration by the dealer of every separate sale of cartridges, ammunition, and so forth. There is a recording fee of ten cents, payable to the city clerk when the registration is made. This means that when a dealer sells a box of blank cartridges for ten cents, or whatever the price may be it costs him ten cents. The purchaser, to keep within the strict letter of the law, must record his purchase, and that costs ten cents additional.

50 years ago, 1967
Work has started on leveling the land adjacent to Rich’s Restaurant on Center Street. The property owners said Thursday that plans call for the removal of an old house on real estate acquired recently from Benjamin A. Turner. The area will be used for additional parking space for the restaurant at 170 Center Street.

25 years ago, 1992
Ingenuity and hard work took two local Odyssey of the Mind teams to the top in recent state competition. Now they’re counting on cribbage and pizza to help take them to the world finals. A variety of fundraisers are in the works to come up with the approximately $12,000 needed for 14 Webster Intermediate and Fairview School students and their four coaches to travel to the University of Colorado for the international competition May 27-31. The cost covers transportation, room, board and tournament registration.
