Farhiya Ibrahim sings her version of “Rise Up” by Andra Day during a dress rehearsal for Tree Street Youth’s third annual fundraising event, “I am Tree,” as Halima Aden signs the lyrics. Ibrahim has been using American Sign Language since she was very young and is looking forward to signing in front of a crowd Thursday evening. For Ibrahim, being a part of “I am Tree” is about “becoming something bigger, being a better person. It’s not being who I was yesterday, but looking forward to tomorrow as something better.” The theme of the event is “I Am Rising.” Limited tickets are available on the Tree Street Youth website, treestreetyouth.org.
