AUBURN — Alfred “Fred” Y. Theriault, 83, of Auburn and formerly of Lewiston died peacefully Saturday, April 29, at Clover Manor with his loving family by his side.

Alfred was born Aug. 4, 1933, in St. Quentin, N.B., Canada, to the late Ludger and Anna (Drapeau) Theriault. In June 1947, he immigrated to Lewiston with his parents and other siblings.

As a young man, he followed his older brother, Roger, to the woods of Vermont to become a logger. Alfred later returned to the area and worked as a carpenter for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army on Sept. 22, 1953. He served in the 41st Tank Battalion, 8th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, rising to the rank of E-5 sergeant.

After his military service, Alfred returned to the Lewiston-Auburn area and worked as a member of a carpenters’ union. He was proud to have worked on buildings on Bowdoin College’s campus and on Holy Family Church in Lewiston. He later founded and operated L&A Concrete Foundation Co. with his brother, Fern, before establishing his own company, Pine State Concrete Co., and doing work in the local community for over 20 years. He finished his working years as a local carpenter.

In 1957, he married Doris Eccles of Lewiston and they went on to have five children. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, boating and occasionally hunting. Later in life, he found two new sports that he enjoyed very much which were golf and skiing. What brought him his greatest joy was spending time with his children and the extended Theriault family. Time spent during the holidays with his children and grandchildren was very special to him. He enjoyed fishing with his son, Rick, playing golf with David, skiing with Linda in Utah, home-cooked meals with Susan and visiting Jane in Dallas. Alfred looked forward to periodic Theriault family reunions with great joy and felt they were very important in keeping the family together. He also enjoyed wintering in Florida with friends and relatives.

Alfred is survived by his five children, Richard Theriault and his wife, Sheri, of Auburn, David Theriault and his wife, Karen, of Auburn, Linda Theriault and Stuart Eason, of Denver, Colorado, Susan Nason and her husband, John, of Winthrop, and Jane Anderson and her husband, Kevin, of Murphy, Texas; grandsons, Joseph Theriault, Kyle Theriault, John Nason, Jeremy Theriault, Jacob Nason, Corey Burgiel, Christian Burgiel, Ryan Theriault and Jordan Anderson; and great-granddaughter, Riley Theriault. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive him. Alfred was also survived by his only remaining sister, Theresa Fournier, who tragically passed away just a few short hours after comforting her brother, Alfred, during his own passing. His brothers, Albert Theriault, Wilfred Theriault, Aime Theriault, Roger Theriault, Romeo Theriault, Robert Theriault and Fernand Theriault; sisters, Rose-Aime Caron, Lena Martel and Jacqueline Bonin; and grandson, Christopher Theriault all predeceased him.
