FARMINGTON — SeniorsPlus served lunch to 20 people at its new Senior Center at the Farmington Community Center on Monday.
At its opening last week, the Senior Center served 19, Matthew Foster, Community Center director, said.
This week, Nate Miller of SeniorsPlus shared information about programs and services available for seniors, SeniorsPlus organizer Mary Richards said.
Seniors are welcome to come before lunch to enjoy games, exercise in the gym upstairs or socialize, she said.
The new center will be open every Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. The first and third Monday of each month will also include a program after lunch, she said.
All seniors in Franklin County are welcome and are requested to make a reservation by calling SeniorsPlus at 795-4010 by Friday. A $3 donation is suggested for those over 60 years old; and more by those who are younger.
The Senior Center developed with help from a Thriving in Place grant, now in its second year, provided by The Maine Health Access Foundation, Richards said.
Similar activities have already begun in Rangeley, she said.
Through the grant, Seniors Plus partners with Western Maine Community Action, Franklin Health Network and the Healthy Community Coalition. In Rangeley, partners include Rangeley Health and Wellness, and Rangeley Family Medicine.
